Wooden Spoon
Measuring Jug
- Beef Mince 500 g
- Large Onions 2
- Medium Carrots 3
- Beef Stock 600 ML
- Worcestershire Sauce 1 Tbsp
- Dried Thyme 1 Tsp
- Self-raising Flour 250 g
- Atora Suet 125 g
- Salt 1 Pinch
- Cold Water 150 ML
Place your heavy pot on the stove over medium heat. Add the beef mince to the hot dry pot. Stir it often until the meat turns brown.
Add the chopped onions and carrots to the meat. Cook them for five minutes until they start softening. This builds a great flavor base for your stew.
Pour the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce into the pot. Stir in the dried herbs and some black pepper. Bring the liquid to a gentle boil.
Turn the heat down to low and cover the pot. Let the mince simmer slowly for twenty minutes. This makes the beef very tender and flavorful.
Mix the flour and suet in a bowl with water. Roll the dough into eight small, round balls. These will become your fluffy, delicious dumplings.
Place the dough balls on top of the mince. Put the lid back on the pot tightly. Cook for another twenty minutes without lifting the lid.
- Use cold water when making the dumpling dough.
- Do not overwork the dough or dumplings get hard.
- Brown the mince well to get a dark gravy.
- Keep the lid closed while the dumplings steam.
- Check the pot to ensure it does not dry out.
- Dice carrots small so they cook at the same rate.
- Add a pinch of salt to the dumpling mix.
