Baking sheet
Wire cooling rack
Aluminum foil
Pastry brush
Small mixing bowl
- Light Brown Sugar 1/2 Cup
- Pecans Finely Chopped 1/2 Cup
- Maple Syrup 2 Tbsp
- Black Pepper Freshly Ground 1/2 Tsp
- Thick-cut Bacon 16 Slices
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees now. Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil. Place a wire rack on top of the foil.
Mix the sugar and pecans in a bowl. Add the maple syrup and black pepper. Stir until the mixture looks like wet sand.
Lay the bacon slices on the wire rack. Do not let the slices overlap each other. Space them out so they cook evenly.
Use a spoon to spread the nut mixture. Press the topping firmly onto each bacon slice. Make sure the coating is thick and even.
Place the pan into the hot oven. Bake the bacon for about twenty-five minutes. The topping should be brown and very bubbly.
Remove the pan from the oven carefully. Let the bacon rest for five minutes. This allows the caramel to harden and get crunchy.
- Always use thick-cut bacon for the best crispy results.
- Line your pan with foil to prevent a sticky mess.
- Check the oven early so the sugar does not burn.
- Let the bacon cool to get that perfect candy crunch.
- Do not crowd the rack or it will not crisp.
- Use fresh pecans for the best nutty flavor and smell.
- Press the topping down hard so it stays on well.
