- Large Yellow Onions 2
- Unsalted Butter 2 Tbsp
- Vegetable Oil 1 Tbsp
- Cayenne Pepper 1/4 Tsp
- Cream Cheese 4 Oz
- Sour Cream 1/2 Cup
- Mayonnaise 1/2 Cup
- Kosher Salt 1/2 Tsp
- Black Pepper 1/4 Tsp
Slice your yellow onions into very thin half-moons. Melt the butter and oil in the skillet. Add the onions to the warm pan now.
Cook the onions over medium-low heat for long. Stir them every few minutes so they brown. They should become a deep gold color soon.
Remove the pan from the heat once dark. Let the onions cool to room temperature first. This prevents the dairy from melting later.
Place the cream cheese and sour cream in a bowl. Add the mayonnaise and the spices to it. Mix these until the texture is very smooth.
Fold the cooled onions into the creamy mixture. Stir gently until the onions are spread out. Your delicious dip is now ready to serve.
- Cook the onions slowly to avoid a bitter taste.
- Always use room temperature cream cheese for easy mixing.
- Add a splash of water if onions dry out.
- Chill the dip for one hour before you eat.
- Use fresh onions for the best and sweetest flavor.
- Do not rush the browning process on high heat.
- Taste the dip before adding extra salt or pepper.
- Keep the onion slices thin for a better bite.
