Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Tight Fitting Lid
  • Fine Mesh Strainer
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Citrus Juicer
  • Chef's knife
  • Silicone Spatula

Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice 1.5 cups
  • Water 3 cups
  • Cilantro 0.5 cup
  • Lime Juice 2 tbsp
  • Lime Zest 1 tsp
  • Vegetable Oil 1 tbsp
  • Kosher Salt 1 tsp
  • Garlic 1 clove

Instructions

  • Rinse the Rice: Put the rice in a strainer. Run cold water over it. Do this until the water is clear.
  • Boil the Water: Place water and salt in your saucepan. Turn the heat to high. Wait for big bubbles.
  • Cook the Rice: Add the rice to the boiling water. Cover the pot with the lid. Turn the heat to low.
  • Simmer and Wait: Let it cook for 15 minutes. Do not lift the lid. Steam is very important here.
  • Rest the Rice: Remove the pot from the heat. Let it sit for 5 minutes. This makes it extra fluffy.
  • Prep the Mix: Chop your cilantro very small. Squeeze your limes into a small bowl.
  • Add the Flavor: Pour the lime juice over the rice. Add the zest and oil. Stir in the cilantro.
  • Fluff and Serve: Use a fork to mix everything. Be very gentle. Serve it while it is hot.

Notes

➔ Use long grain rice for the best texture.
➔ Chop the cilantro just before you use it.
➔ Add a pinch of sugar for extra balance.
➔ Toast the dry rice in oil for more flavor.
