Equipment

  • Large Glass Bowl
  • Pastry Blender
  • Rolling Pin
  • 9-Inch Pie Plate
  • Measuring Cups
  • Sharp kitchen knife
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Baking sheet
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • All-purpose Flour 2 1/2 Cups
  • Unsalted Butter Cold 1 Cup
  • Salt 1 Tsp
  • Granulated Sugar 1 Tsp
  • Cold Water 1/4 Cup
  • Granny Smith Apples 3 Lbs
  • Lemon Juice 1 Tbsp
  • Granulated Sugar For Filling 3/4 Cup
  • Ground Cinnamon 1 Tsp
  • Ground Nutmeg 1/4 Tsp
  • Large Egg 1

Instructions

  • Make the Crust: Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until it looks like crumbs. Add cold water slowly to form a dough ball.
  • Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic. Put it in the fridge for one hour. This makes the crust very easy to roll.
  • Prep the Apples: Peel, core, and slice your fresh apples. Toss them with lemon juice, sugar, and spices. Make sure every slice is coated well.
  • Roll the Pastry: Roll out half of the dough on flour. Place it into your 9-inch pie plate. Let the edges hang over the side.
  • Fill the Pie: Pile the apple mixture into the bottom crust. Add small dots of butter on top of apples. This makes the filling very rich.
  • Add Top Crust: Roll out the second piece of dough. Place it over the apples and seal the edges. Cut small slits in the top for steam.
  • Bake the Pie: Brush the top with a beaten egg. Bake at 400 degrees until the crust is golden. Let it cool before you slice it.

➔ Place a tray under the pie to catch juice.
➔ Let the pie cool completely to set the filling.
