Equipment

  • Baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Whisk
  • Measuring Cups
  • Parchment paper
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • All Purpose Flour 4 Cups
  • Granulated Sugar 1.5 Cups
  • Dark Brown Sugar 1 Cup
  • Unsalted Butter 1.5 Cups
  • Ground Cinnamon 2 Tbsp
  • Baking Powder 1 Tsp
  • Large Eggs 2
  • Whole Milk 0.5 Cup
  • Vanilla Extract 2 Tsp
  • Salt 0.5 Tsp

Instructions

  • Heat your oven to 325 degrees. Grease your square baking pan well. Line it with parchment paper now.
  • Whisk the flour and cinnamon together. Add the brown sugar and salt. Pour in the melted butter.
  • Mix these with a large fork. Let big clumps form slowly. This is your crumb topping.
  • Beat the soft butter and sugar. Use your mixer on medium speed. The mix should look pale.
  • Add the eggs one by one. Mix well after each addition. Pour in the vanilla extract now.
  • Add the flour and baking powder. Alternate this with the whole milk. Do not overmix the batter.
  • Spread the batter in the pan. Use your spatula to level it. It should look very smooth.
  • Sprinkle the crumbs over the top. Cover every inch of the batter. Press them down very lightly.
  • Bake for about 50 to 60 minutes. Use a toothpick to check doneness. Let the cake cool completely.

Notes

  • Use cold butter for the topping.
  • Do not overmix the cake batter.
  • Measure your flour with a spoon.
  • Wait for the cake to cool.
  • Use high quality ground cinnamon.
