- cans 15 oz PORK AND BEANS 6
- BACON 1/2 lb
- medium ONION 1
- large BELL PEPPER 1/2
- KETCHUP 1/2 cup
- BROWN SUGAR 1/2 cup
- YELLOW MUSTARD 2 tbsp
- WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE 1 tbsp
Prep the Oven: Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease your baking dish with a little cooking spray.
Cook the Bacon: Place bacon slices in your large skillet. Fry them until they are very brown and crispy. Remove the bacon and drain it on paper towels.
Sauté the Veggies: Keep a little bacon fat in the pan. Toss in your chopped onions and bell peppers. Cook them until they are soft and clear.
Mix the Sauce: In a large bowl, combine the ketchup and sugar. Stir in the mustard and the Worcestershire sauce. Mix until the sugar starts to dissolve well.
Combine Everything: Pour the beans into your large baking dish. Add the cooked veggies and half the crumbled bacon. Pour the sweet sauce over the top of everything.
Stir and Top: Use your spoon to mix everything together. Smooth the top with the back of your spoon. Sprinkle the rest of the crispy bacon on top.
Bake the Dish: Place the dish in the hot oven. Bake it for about 45 to 60 minutes. The sauce should be bubbling and very thick.
➡️ Use thick-cut bacon for more texture and smoky flavor.
➡️ Do not drain the liquid from the canned beans.
➡️ Sauté your vegetables well so they are not crunchy.
➡️ Let the beans sit for ten minutes after baking.
➡️ Add a splash of hot sauce for extra heat.
➡️ Use dark brown sugar for a richer molasses taste.
➡️ Ensure the bacon is very crispy before adding it.
