Ingredients
  

  • Self-rising cornmeal 1.5 cups
  • Self-rising flour 0.5 cup
  • Granulated sugar 1 tbsp
  • Small onion finely chopped 1
  • Large egg lightly beaten 1
  • Buttermilk 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil for frying 1 quart

Instructions
 

  • Heat the Oil. Fill your pot with three inches of oil. Heat it to 350 degrees.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients. Stir the cornmeal, flour, and sugar in a bowl.
  • Add Wet Ingredients. Put in the egg, buttermilk, and chopped onions.
  • Stir the Batter. Mix everything until it forms a thick, wet paste.
  • Drop the Dough. Use a spoon to drop balls into hot oil.
  • Fry Until Golden. Cook for three minutes until they turn dark gold.
  • Drain and Cool. Place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Notes

➔ Keep the oil temperature steady at 350 degrees for crispness.
➔ Do not overmix the batter or they will become tough.
➔ Use a small scoop for even cooking and pretty shapes.
➔ Grate the onions to distribute the flavor more evenly inside.
