- PORK SHOULDER 4 lbs
- BROWN SUGAR 1/2 cup
- SMOKED PAPRIKA 2 tbsp
- SALT 1 tbsp
- BLACK PEPPER 1 tsp
- GARLIC POWDER 1 tbsp
- ONION POWDER 1 tbsp
- APPLE CIDER VINEGAR 1/2 cup
- LIQUID SMOKE 2 tsp
- BBQ SAUCE 2 cups
Prepare the Meat: Rinse the pork and pat it dry with towels. Trim away any very large pieces of hard fat.
Apply the Rub: Mix your dry spices in a small bowl. Rub the mix all over the pork meat thoroughly.
Place in Cooker: Put the seasoned pork into your slow cooker. Ensure the fat side is facing upwards for moisture.
Add Liquids: Pour the vinegar and liquid smoke around the meat. Do not wash off the spices on the top.
Slow Cook: Set the cooker to the low heat setting. Let it cook for eight to ten hours slowly.
Shred the Pork: Remove the meat once it is very tender. Use two forks to pull the meat into shreds.
Add Sauce: Toss the shredded meat with plenty of BBQ sauce. Serve it warm on soft buns for the best taste.
➜ Always cook the pork on a low heat setting.
➜ Use a pork shoulder for the most moisture.
➜ Do not peek by opening the lid too often.
➜ Let the meat rest before you start shredding it.
➜ Add a little juice for extra flavor and steam.
➜ Season the meat heavily for a better bark layer.
➜ Toast your buns for a nice crunchy texture change.
