Equipment

  • Small Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Fine Mesh Strainer

Ingredients

  • Unsalted Butter 4 Tablespoons
  • All-Purpose Flour 1/4 Cup
  • Beef Broth 1 Cup
  • Chicken Broth 1/2 Cup
  • Black Pepper 1 Teaspoon
  • Garlic Powder 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Onion Powder 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Salt 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Worcestershire Sauce 1/2 Teaspoon

Instructions

  • Melt the Butter. Place your saucepan over medium heat. Let the butter melt until it starts to bubble.
  • Make the Roux. Add the flour to the melted butter. Whisk it constantly for about two minutes. It should look like a light brown paste.
  • Add the Broths. Slowly pour in the beef and chicken broth. Keep whisking so no lumps form in the pan.
  • Season the Mix. Stir in the pepper, garlic, and onion powder. Add the Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor now.
  • Thicken the Gravy. Let the mixture simmer for five minutes. Stir it often until it coats the back of a spoon.
  • Final Taste Test. Taste the gravy and add salt if needed. Serve it hot over your favorite side dishes.

Notes

➔ Always whisk the flour well to avoid any lumps.
➔ Use low sodium broth to control the salt level.
➔ Cook the flour for two minutes to remove raw taste.
➔ Add a splash of milk for a creamier texture.
➔ Keep the heat on medium to prevent burning the butter.
➔ Sift the flour before adding it to the hot pan.
